Vote For Best Before End Date In The UK Blog Awards 2019 | Midlife Musings

Best-Newcomer-Blog-At-Vuelio-Blog-Awards-2017

I’m writing this almost a year to the date that I was posing here getting ready to sit down at the Vuelio Blog Awards. Never in a million years did I ever think my blog would win Best Newcomer Blog 2017′.

I’d wanted to write my own blog for years and just never got round to it.  There were always so many reasons that I put it off. One of the reasons was that I write other people’s content for a living so wasn’t sure if I could sit down and do more in my own time. The call was strong though, said in my best Yoda voice 🙂 I have a lot I want to say. So, finally in February 2017 I published my first post. If you didn’t know me then, go and have a read:

Am I the Valentine Grinch?

I set myself out to be a lifestyle blogger and I am happy to report is where I continue to sit and I love it. At 55 years of age I’m always the oldest one to attend any event. I haven’t been to that many to be honest but when I do I’ve often felt like a bit of an oddity. Most bloggers have been absolutely lovely and think it’s great that I’m championing the  midlife cause. As if we need to champion though hey? It’s mad. We have the most disposable income in our demographic for starters. I wrote this post just over a year ago, too ….

Why ARE Over 50’s So Poorly Represented By Brands & The Media?

I’m trying to lay the foundations and send out the signals that nothing stops just because you’re older. I still love a Mac lipstick purchase as much as the next girl.

So, at the Vuelio awards it was amazing to be amongst a sea of mainly twenty somethings who I’ve got to say were so so supportive. I had loads of people coming up to me afterwards saying they thought it was brilliant that I won. Yes I’m that oddity I’m keen to show can be normality!

Has Winning A Blogging Award Changed My Life?

Winning a blogging award hasn’t changed my life one bit. I’d hoped to work with some brands this year but to be honest I’ve turned away more opportunities than I’ve accepted. Marks and Spencer and Next haven’t been knocking at my door .. damn! Can they hear me?? Waves ….

Thing is, I know I’m different. Not only am I 55, I’m also mid-plus size. I love makeup. I won’t be put in a box. I still have the same quirky fashion sense I’ve always had. I was a punk rocker after all and that is in my DNA. So no, I don’t want to be offered bunion shields and sensible shoes, thankyou!! Ha! Ha!

I shop at Asos and Zara. Back track Zara .. only the earrings and shoes fit me .. lol!!

I suppose my raison d’être is sharing tiny pieces of my heart and my zest for life in everything I write. I know that lots of people are now saying because of the rise of Instagram influencers that blogs are dying out. Heck, I’ve noticed lots of bloggers only actually post on Instagram now and have forsaken their blogs. Not me .. you’ve got me.

This Blog Is Mine .. It’s Where I Can Be Me

Sometimes the words just spill out on here. I’m not a fashion blogger by any stretch of the imagination but I love blogging about my fashion sense and sharing some of my outfits. Man, the buzz I get when other women message me and say they love how I’ve worn something and it’s inspired them to buy something new. I’m no fashion guru but I like that I might give another woman a spark of confidence in themselves. We all need support one way or another don’t we?

So it is with excitement and trepidation that I find myself asking for you to vote for me so that I might be in with a chance of winning another award.

This Time It’s The UK Blog Awards 2019

It’s different to the Vuelio Awards in that there is a public voting round first of all. After this it goes to a judging round and culminates in the award evening next April in London. Woo hoo for a potential trip to London if nothing else hey?

I’m in the lifestyle section and somehow in the fashion section as well which has drove me to think I might try and fit some more ‘My Style’ posts into my schedule. I’m not retired. I still have a busy day job; in fact it’s my own business so very hectic and I just find time runs away with me. I’m constantly surprised that I even get anything posted on here but again it’s because of how much I love my little space that I do I guess. I love being here.

Good luck!! I’ve just put my vote in. When I was thinking of starting my blog, it was Catherine and yourself that inspired me the most. I love your posts and your honesty.

That’s so lovely. This literally stopped me in my tracks, Alison, when I read your comment. You’ve no idea how that has made me feel .. to be mentioned in the same sentence as Catherine. Wonderful, thankyou xo

Good Luck – I have voted for you. You do a fantastic job. I started my blog 12 months ago (any tips?). There are times when I struggle as to be honest I am a technophobe so not sure how to do many things and technical terms go way over my head. Still in my retirement I am enjoying my little self. It is surprising how many people around this small world are finding me.
Looking forward to your next post

The green coat and red boots is one of my favourite outfits of yours. I love the leopard print dress too. Good luck with the blog awards! It would be lovely for a midlife blogger to win again 🙂
