Beauty Products Tried & Tested | December 2017

The last time I shared my tried and tested beauty products was in July. Where did that time go? I bet I’m not alone in thinking that. I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff so I’m not going to! So later than attended but here goes .. my December beauty products.

The first thing I wanted to rave about and share with you was Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser. I was sceptical at first that you can really spray this at all angles but you really can. It’s perfect for those hard to reach places like your back and backs of thighs. These days my menopausal skin needs moisture EVERY day and this does the trick. I use it every morning after I’ve showered. It’s light but effective. I can get dressed straightaway. This is heavy duty moisturiser in disguise.

I’m struggling with The Ordinary brand’s products. Is anyone else? This is my third item and I’m struggling to understand what all the hype is about. Can someone put me right? Am I using the wrong products for me, for my skin? I started using this Lactic Acid 10% and I have not noticed any difference. Indeed, I haven’t even had to build up a tolerance as their directions suggest. I so want to buy into this brand but I just feel overwhelmed by so much choice. It’s certainly budget friendly but it’s kind of a false economy if none of it works. Please someone tell me they’ve had success on their 50+ skin and I’ll use what they have used.

I’ve only just started experiencing Molton Brown products. I’m keen to try their candles at some point if I can bear to tear myself away from my continual repeat purchases of Jo Malone.

I’m loving the fragrance of this pink peppercorn hand cream so figuring the candle in this will look the part amongst my pink accessorised sitting room.

I love love love bareMinerals Lash Domination mascara. I’m a big fan of the brand and think I got a tester of the mascara which then successfully turned me into a convert. In the run up to Christmas you’ve been able to buy this ‘Make Mine A Double’ set. It’s a full size and a travel size for only £20.00.  You can still bag yourself one at Boots.

I’ve been using lip balm as primer for my lipstick for as long as I can remember. It really does work. I actually can’t apply lipstick without first using balm now I’ve done it for that long. I mostly use Nivea Soft Rose but decided this month to try Blistex’s Lip Brilliance. You can wear this on its own, too. Try it before your lippy ..  it really does make a difference to the application especially if you are a fan of matte lipsticks like me.

And talking of matte lipsticks you might remember that I’m a  red lippie fan. I mentioned in one of my very first posts earlier in the year .. my ‘Thank God I’ve Never Been Mutton Shamed’ post.

I’ve treat myself to another shade in the L’Oreal Matte Addiction range. This is my fourth one. They are so wearable.

This one is Haute Rouge 347 – a real festive red. It’s only had one or two outings so far but will be my go to every day starting Christmas Eve.

There you have it. Always a mixed bag with beauty products, isn’t it? Some you love some you don’t. Some so hyped you wonder what you missed.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the big guy in the red suit brings me so I can maybe do a January review … hang on don’t get too excited!

While I’m here I’d like to wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas with lots of fun and fizz spending time with those they love. I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who stops by to read my blog and likes and chats to me on my social media channels. It really means a lot. To have won a blog award for Best Newcomer this year just blew me away … you’ve encouraged me and now you won’t be able to get rid of me!!

Lots of Love Sharon xo

Hi Sharon, I know we’ve talked about The Ordinary and I used it over the summer and loved it. However, I found that as soon as the season turned, my skin just dried out so I stopped using it a few months ago. I’ll go back to it next summer but have reverted to an Estee Lauder serum and Clinique moisturiser. Very interesting about the Vaseline moisturiser – I’m going to try that – and I love Molton Brown products. The candles are fab too! Nicola (planet_ferguson)

Hi Sharon, I’ve just discovered your fabulous blog through seeing a comment from you on a post on Instagram. Don’t you just love the power of social media for connecting people! I’m a fifty plus blogger who gets totally confused by all the lotions and potions that fill shelves and counters and look wistfully at make up and wish I could find the courage to try something different. Some of my current make up must be at least 10 years old! Thank you too for inspiring (or rather, giving me a boot up the bum ) to revamp my little blog that I love but tend to forget to update. It’s definitely going on my 2018 “to do” liist. xx

Hey Brigitte! I do love social media yes and believe it can be a power of positivity when used well. I’ve just followed you back on Insta so looking forward to seeing your squares xo

I havent tried the ordinary stuff yet – it is all too complicated, yes I know it is supposedly fabulous but I don’t want all that complication, I’ll stick to Kiehls for a while longer as I know it likes me and my skin likes it back. Huge fan of blistex – it is nice and moisturising without gluing the lips together in one big shiny, gloopy blob (never attractive). Love your red lippy by the way

Thanks Juliet! I’ve just been given some Kiehls at Christmas. I think it’s some sort of night time concentrate. I’ve totally given up on Ordinary unless someone can point me in the right direction of the correct combinations to use for my skin xo

I love your choice of red lippy. It’s about all I wear of different shades and brands I do mix certain pinks ansd neutrals to my reds experimenting for all kinds of shades. I live in Massachusetts 57 very light skinned, so the sun is not my friend and I like experimenting with products. I like your choices. I find that coconut oil in solid form does wonders for our menopause skins You can use it from top to bottom of you body, and a Hair moisteriser then shampoo a tiny bit to tame frizzy hair, all your dry spots I use it all over it does wonders Keep up the great work

Thanks Roberta .. can’t beat red lippy!! The sun is not my friend, either. I don’t even like fake tan that much. I’ve never come across one that didn’t make my freckles and age spots look darker 🙁
