Beauty Review | Aldi Anti Ageing Skincare & Others

What anti ageing skincare haven’t I used over the years? I’ve tried budget, economy, supermarket, luxury, big brands, unknown brands — you name it, it will’ve been on my bathroom shelf at one time or another. All apart from Crème de la Mer and La Prairie that is. I’ve read they work wonders but my purse strings have never stretched to them so I have to just look on from afar in wonderment and awe.

My skin I have always classed as normal with a hint of senstivity. My hair before it went grey was dark brown but my skin colouring is that of a red head — all freckly and very prone to sunburn or as my GP terms it ‘ celtic’. It has become drier throughout my menopause years although thankfully not as dry as my body skin. More on that in another blog post very soon. Agewise, I think my skin has faired quite well. I have some pigmentation marks which I hate and there seems to have been some correlation between them and my hormones e.g. pregnancy and menopause they have had growth spurts. Other people tell me they don’t notice them but you know how critical we are of ourselves? — yadda, yadda, yadda!

I have laughter lines around the eyes but I like to think that these are genuinely because I do actually laugh a lot. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

I love a serum. That sounds like a quote for a t-shirt doesn’t it? Just the texture and that sinking in feeling —  like a flower in the rain — ha! Except my flower takes some quenching these days.

So what do I use ?

Like most sensible UK shoppers I became an Aldi convert many years ago and I love how they keep upping their game and no where is more apparent then in their skincare range. Although, looking at the link I’ve just provided you wouldn’t think so. You really have to go in store to see. I’ve tried pretty everything as I do a quick trolley dash/grab each week around my local store. Their most recent introductions; Vitacell and and Caviar Lumination I am loving using. They feel so luxurious and my skin seems to like them. The Vitacell serum below does smell a little strange — can’t quite put my finger on it but I can persevere as I like the way it makes my skin feel after application.

The Caviar serum is black in the bottle and black when it comes out but don’t worry it quickly disperses clear as soon as you start to agitate between your fingers and massage into your face. My first eye care roll on purchase I had to return because it just wouldn’t roll. I knew how it was meant to work as I’ve had many a ‘Garnier’ product thats works in the same way.

I’ve got to admit I’m on and off with night skincare. It always seems too rich for my skin and I end up with a break out.. at my age! Instead I mostly stick with a repeat of my daycare regime most nights and I always, always remove my  makeup with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. A good friend introduced me to this about ten years ago and I quite simply cannot do without it. There is something so satisfying about removing the daily grime with a warm muslin cloth.

I have introduced everyone I know to it with gifts over the years and they too have all become addicted. Even the men in my family love the mens version.

I have got one very strange habit now though on the nights I use the Caviar night cream  – the one in the blue glass jar. Don’t go all ‘judgey eyes’ on me will you? After a couple of minutes I’ve noticed if I rub my fingertips over my face it rolls off which Mr Bbed has declared is a tiny bit gross so now I tend to do it discreetly. Am I ever discreet?!!  Remember that glue at school that once dry used to roll off your fingers? Well, this is the effect this cream has on my face. Should it do that? Call me crazy but I actually like it and feel like it’s some sort of  exfoliation. Two for the price of one, huh?

I really can’t fault the Aldi range and happily mix and match them with lots of other beauty products. They win awards and happily compete ‘cheek by jowl’ (see what I did there?) against top end brands but with supermarket price tags starting at £4.99. You can actually go in cheaper than this with their Q10 range which starts at an unbelievable £1.69!!

There is one mid range product I’ve been wanting to try for a while but haven’t got round to just yet and that is Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Capsules.

I searched around to see if I could find a blogger my age who had reviewed them but I have yet to find a review. I came across some reviews from thirty and forty plus bloggers but not anyone in their fifties. Please point me in the right direction if you know of  a good fifty plus review before I commit to a purchase. I think I would like these capsules as they are a ‘serum’ and as I’ve said you know how I feel about a serum! Look —  the packaging says they are ‘youth restoring’ too! What fifty something wouldn’t want a touch of daily restoration? Me please  .. the dehydrated one over here!!

Love this post! I have always been blessed with lovely skin but over the last 2 years it has really declined! It’s very dry, red and just not very hydrated. This month I’ve been determined to get it into shape. I know the holiday sun will do it some good so I wanted to do some prep work.

I bought 3 Aldi Lacura products (not the ones you tried) and they really irritated my skin! It became terribly inflamed, red and a bit sore too! I persevered for around a week. My skin looked much better when I was wearing foundation and make up – much smoother and brighter but when I wasn’t wearing make up it looked terrible. I don’t wear make up every day so decided to stop using it. We just couldn’t get on! I think my face is perhaps too sensitive.

I LOVE Cleanse and Polish and couldn’t be without it. I also use Liz Earle’s Super Serum night oil which I apply in bed (along with my hand balm, foot lotion and Burts Bees arm moisturiser.

I asked lots of people for advice on the best skin care last week and a few people mention Elemis Pro Collagen so although pricey I have ordered the Elemis Pro Collagen cleansing balm, the Elemis Marine Cream and Elemis Pro Collagen Eye Cream – I am collecting them from Newcastle on Tuesday so I’ll let you know how I get on!

Lots of people also recommended using a cleansing oil as a second cleanse so I’ve ordered Burts Bees cleansing oil (it had 1/3 off so was only a tenner) to try too. I really hope all of this is the combination I’ve been looking for!

Thanks Sam! It just shows you doesn’t it that skin really is so individual and you just have to try everything you can to find a fit? I’ve been a big fan of Elemis in the past too and Burts Bees. I’ll be keen to hear how you get on with Elemis. I’ve often thought about trying something again from the range for a change and at least you always know there are lots of good salons where you can get a facial, too xo

I love, love Aldi for their skincare range. It suits my skin. But living in a country with no Aldi, so have to stock up when able. I often think as I fill up the trolley for another x months with some brands I would have only purchased one item. This week Beautician doing my eyebrows asked what skincare regime I used, as she said my skin was so good, the salon stocks an exclusive brand and only one to use it their salon in whole country, I answered various! If I lived in UK would definitely want to try Beauty Pie. And as a Girlfriend says as she is approached by another Rodan and Fields sales person if the product worked brilliantly they would not need to advertise.
