What’s In My Makeup Bag? | Beauty

What’s in my makeup bag? Not a lot actually because although I have many makeup bags I don’t really use them. I buy them and have had some beauties bought for me but I very rarely use one.

However, when I got chance to ‘play’ in a ‘What’s In Your Makeup Bag?’ challenge by blogger, Joanne from Opposable Thumbs I couldn’t resist. After all, who doesn’t like a good nose as to what it takes to make a ‘face’ up?

First, I have my day time makeup. I use these products and unless I am going on somewhere after work I only take perfume and lipstick out with me. I’m very low maintenance really even though I love beauty products.

Obviously, we aren’t discussing skincare here but my collections of moisturisers and serums is ultra important as a base.

  • First step is bareMinerals Complexion Rescue put on with their brush. I also build up with a small brush where I need a little more coverage.
  • Next my brows. Although I have  HD Brows treatment every 4-6 weeks I still like to fill in especially as the tint starts to wear off. I like dark brows against my silver hair. I think it’s a look that suits me. This poor HD palette has seen better days .. I don’t even know what colours they are anymore as the label has worn off from so much use. My beautician knows what the shades are so I’m okay for whenever I renew.
  • I fix them in place with Benefit Brow Setter in Clear.
  • The only eyeshadows I ever use these days are from my collection of Urban Decay palettes. You can see now why I don’t use a makeup bag! For everyday its usually from the Naked Heat palette and sometimes a touch of Heat depending on what I’m wearing.
  • As a base I use MUA highlighting powder in Pink Shimmer. It’s pretty rubbish as a highlighter but makes a good base eye cover.
  • A couple of coats of bareMinerals Lash Domination in black serves me well for daily wear.
  • I have a stock pile too of Avon True Colour eye pencils in Sugar Plum.
  • Lipsticks wise I have lots but I’m a big fan of the L’Oreal Matt Addiction range which I mentioned previously about the Haute Rouge 347 shade here.
  • I always have to prep my lips first though and the best and  most budget friendly I’ve found that does the trick is Blistex.

So That’s Me Makeup Wise Every Day ….

I Up My Game When I’m Going ‘Out Out’ With One Or Two Extra Products

  • Base wise I still do the same but before I use the Complexion Rescue I go for a layer of YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer. I’ve used this for years and it really makes a difference. My skin definitely looks even and polished when I use it. It’s packaging has changed slightly now since I last purchased. I have a bit of a thing for YSL products. I do think it’s one beauty brand that is worth the extra pennies.
  • I then follow with bareMinerals Original Foundation in medium shade. I love the buffing finish with it’s brush. I’ve been a fan of this for at least 5 years now. I love how you can keep layering depending on what level of finish you want.
  • Mascara wise I use another YSL product. This time, their Volume Effet Faux Cils in Burgundy which is becoming harder and harder to source. I love the pop it gives to my blue eyes. Benefit used to do a similar shade in their Bad Gal mascara but all good things come to an end .. apparently. I hate it when that happens!
  • I like false lashes, too although I’m late to the party with them. I’ve started to notice a bit of lash thinning out in the last year or so— I’ll blame the menopause.  I used to have lovely, lush lashes, too. Now I find I like the effect that Eyelure 101 Volume  lashes gives me. I don’t want to look too drag queen, now do I?
  • As I’m a BIG Urban Decay fan { I’ve mentioned this oh so many times} I sometimes add a touch of their Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner on my upper lid. I currently have Amp and Glam Rock.
  • On the lips it’s Mac all the way for my evening look. I have several red ones including my favourite matte {again}  Ruby Woo.

Once again, no makeup bag to go out with … I just have my lippie and go … I’m not as high maintenance as some people might think I am but I do believe it’s about the quality of the products that you use that enables this.

I’ve Got To Talk About Fragrance

This is the one thing I simply cannot go without. If I was on a desert island and was asked what my must haves would be I would have to have:

Lipstick & Perfume

I’ve found the cutest little handbag sized bottle by Bronnley, too. This is a brand that I knew as a little girl believe it or not and I’ve recently rediscovered. They have this amazing new range called Eclectic Elements and I’ve been using the Zealous Flower eau fraiche.  If you are a lover of heady, intoxicating fragrances like me then this is the spritz for you. I’m a big fan of Tom Ford and oud based lushness like my Juliette Has A Gun and this is the daytime lighter equivalent. You can’t go wrong. The 30ml bottle is only £15.00 and since finding it I feel a bit like the time I found the M&S Montheme range … delighted at new discoveries .. a new love affair in the making.

So there you have it .. the contents of my makeup bag that aren’t really the contents of my makeup bag.

Thanks to Joanne for the fun of taking part. xo

Ooooh I love seeing what other people have squirrelled away. I love the colours you have going on there – I have white hair and cool skin tones so am drawn to what you have there. I love soft almost plummy colours when it comes to my eyes (they are a pale bluey green), anything too grey and I look like I have walloped myself, the Bobbi Brown eye pencils do a lovely dusky mauve and a very nice eggplant colour – really good on cool tones. I am also loving the strong lip – personally I think as we get older and our hair gets whiter a va-va-voom lippy keeps us looking fierce. Will have to investigate the perfume – I am a fragrance addict so am off to fragrantica to investigate and read up about them, I have heard a lot about Juliette has a gun so am pretty intrigued

I have a makeup bag but only use it when I travel. lol I have gotten lazy with my makeup I wear the same thing day and night, of course, I am retired so don’t go out some days. I think finding a mascara is hard, most make my eyes itch I haven’t tried any of the YSL products, Lancome has been my go-to for years.

I love the Naked palates, though i have tons of makeup (used to be a makeup artist ages ago) these days I stick to my basics go to items. I am so curious about the perfume you mentioned, will look for it and have a sniff next time I’m out and about.

Ohhh I loved having a nosey through your bag! Im a big fan of the Bare Minerals complexion rescue, but havent tried any of their foundations. I might have to investigate them. I too am an Urban Decay naked palette gal, although I havent tried the Naked Heat. Orangey coloured eye shadows make me look like I have an eye infection. Not the best look on me haha!

Where would we be without Urban Decay palettes, huh? x

I love how you have your favorites on that cute tray! I might need to try that on my vanity for my every day products 🙂
