If you look through my blog and my Instagram feed you won’t find many instances of me wearing a dress. Here’s the only three on this blog in almost 18 months of writing:
When did I lose my confidence to wear a dress?
The honest answer is I don’t know. Well, I do and it’s all wrapped up in a ton of reasons. I’ll tell you about them but not today.
Anyway, the confidence is slowly coming back and that’s wrapped up in ton of reasons, too.
One of them is being active in the blogging community and on social media. Oh I know, I know I’ve said ‘Instagram Sucks’ haven’t I? That, bizarrely in a post which was one of only three wearing a dress. Four now if you count this one.
Yes all social media can suck from time to time but oh can it empower, too. I see on a daily basis so many women of all ages blazing a trail with a zest for life. No matter what size, shape or colour they happen to be. Some days it makes me feel like I can take on the world and everything it throws at me and this has got to be good, right?
Clothes are such a big part of our personality. How we feel about ourselves inside and outside is so important and because of what the internet enables me to see and experience from all around the world then back in my little corner of reality it works its magic … on me.
That brings me back very nicely to me wearing a dress! Here it is …
I nearly bought it early in the season in pink. I’m terrible for humming and aaahing. I saw it on my fabulous blogger pal, Ashley from Lazy Daisy Jones. Doesn’t she look pretty in pink?
I was still undecided but it pushed me back to have another look and then there it was …. a delight in teal. As much as I love pink I knew this was for me immediately.
I wore it yesterday for a family gathering to celebrate a very special lady’s 90th birthday.
I had a few ideas in my head of how I was going to accessorise it but this particular version I think gave me the opportunity to wear it with bright summer colour pops.
The sandals were last season from Dorothy Perkins. The tassel earrings were actually a gift I gave to my friend for her birthday last year. I knew they were a perfect match so I begged her for them back! Everything else is very old. I’m a shop my wardrobe kind of gal.
If I get an opportunity to wear it again before the last rays of summer sun are gone I have some silver wedges and a new silver bag I think it will look brill with. In the autumn I am going for boots and a sweater over it. How’s that for transitional fashion?
I wish I could’ve posed as stylishly as Ashley but I always have to play up to the camera. Being a buffoon is the only way I can do it. I’m no fashion blogger no matter how much I wish I was.
I felt super comfortable in the dress. It’s long, flowing and swishy. I would say it fits true to size. I’m wearing a size 16 and I’m approx 5′ 7″. The sleeves are ideal for anyone wanting to cover up and perfectly formed with the all important pom pom detail. It has a dipped neckline at the back with a bow which I love. Sadly, the instagram husband wasn’t on form and he couldn’t seem to be able to get a good snap of that but it is a wonderful feature on a dress that I think has so much going for it.
I got 10% off and free delivery as it was my first order from JD Williams so it worked out a very purse friendly £35.10 which I think is pretty hard to believe for the quality and styling of such a fabulous dress.
The pink version is now on sale and my teal beauty is still in stock so I’d advise you go for it now.
Don’t hang about like I usually do.
