I don’t know about you but our date nights come in fits and starts. Every time we have one though, we always say ‘lets not leave it so long next time’. Over this summer though we’ve been quite good. Our dates have even included stay at home dates and day dates.
I think it’s important to spend quality time together. We actually both agree. Even after all these years together .. 32.5 to be precise .. yikes!
We love eating out and trying new restaurants so it was with excitement we arrived at Oi Polloi in Yarm.
We’d actually been out all day. We’d had a delightful time exploring another North Yorkshire town, Richmond.
We didn’t go home to get changed as this was more like ‘tea’ as we call it in the North East of England which isn’t the same as going out for dinner. It’s a more casual type of meal, something you would do say, before going on to the cinema.
Yarm is a fabulous marketing town not very far from where we live. It’s postal address is Teesside but some folk like to say it’s in North Yorkshire. I’m not sure which it is but it’s definitely one of my favourite places for eating, drinking and shopping.
Oi Polloi has a really young vibe. The first thing that greeted us was their ‘instagram bath’.
Needless to say before Mr B could say ‘balls’ I was in it! He can’t take me anywhere!! Sadly, the picture I had of me in my head isn’t quite portrayed here. Ha! Ha! I can promise we were the only people in the restaurant at the time.
I hadn’t actually even had this fabulous mojito at this point. Lol and lol!!
And a mirror any ‘grammer would kill for!
The food is your basic burgers and pizzas which they do very well. I had a local speciality known as a ‘parmo’. For anyone outside of Teesside they will have no clue what this is. Basically, it’s chicken breast coated in breadcrumbs and topped with bechamel sauce and cheese. Everywhere you go it tastes different. It’s very naughty calories wise and some say bad for your health. Anything that tastes this amazing can’t be good for you can it? Neither of us could eat it all of our food .. the portions are huge and that’s going some for Mr B to admit to.
Mr B’s chicken and fried buffalo mozzerella burger.
When we were asked would we like to try their signature sharing dessert. We declined … initially. However, in the interest of bringing you a full and thorough review we thought it would be rude not to 😉
This is the nutella and marshmallow calzone. It was very sweet and filling and again we couldn’t finish. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a restaurant where Mr B has left so much on his plate. He was willing because it was so tasty but just couldn’t fit another morsel in.
A meal like this for two with a cocktail, beer and coffees costs approx £60.
As we came out of Oi Polloi at about 9pm the sun was just setting and we had a casual meander back to the car checking out some of my favourite places along the high street.
I couldn’t resist the post box pose. What a blogger, huh?
I loved this neon sign in Oi Polloi .. sort of sums up life doesn’t it?
“Find what you love and let it kill you”
Errrrmm as long as it’s not parmos or chocolate!
We visited Oi Polloi on an early Wednesday evening in August. It was fairly quiet when we arrived but got a little busier as our meal progressed. Looking at their extensive cocktail menu and those amazing Instagram props I reckon it is heaving Fridays and Saturdays.
